Over $55,000 raised by EKAL Las Vegas

More than 250 guests attended and supported the fifth annual EKAL fundraiser at the Clark County library theater.

The evening brought dazzling panoply of yesteryear Bollywood singing mesmerizing the local Indian and Pakistani community members in attendance.  The event’s proceeds will support EKAL’s ongoing effort to take quality teaching to India’s poorest and remote areas.  Evening event raised over $55,000 with commitments to support over 150 schools in rural India.

The event’s master of ceremony and the local EKAL chapter president Alok Pandey introduced the travelling music group comprised of lead singers Rana Chatterjee and Sangeeta Melekar,  Piyush on synthesizer, Daxesh on tabla and Raj Kumar on drums.  Theme “Ek Shaam Ekal ke Naam” was superbly executed by the EKAL musical group.

Before the start of the program, a short documentary was shown to the donors reflecting EKAL history and the impact of their donations on many EKAL supported schools across rural India. Local EKAL teenage support group raised money by selling environmentally friendly steel water bottles to support two EKAL schools.

During intermission, the attendees got to socialize with friends and dined boxed dinner provided by India Palace restaurant.  The reception gave an opportunity to attendees to meet old friends and make some new friends.

With support of so many loyal and dedicated donors, local EKAL committee has decided to continue this annual tradition of reaching out to the younger generations of Indians in remote rural areas.
