Alexander Dawson School Starts 2013 Academic Year with New Headmaster Daljit Sohi
Alexander Dawson School, an elite private school in Las Vegas, starts the new year with recently hired Headmaster, Daljit Sohi.
Daljit is joining Alexandar Dawson after working as a Elementary School Principal at The International School of Beijing, one of the Asia’s largest and most prestigious private schools. At the International School, Daljit was responsible for the management and leadership of more than 110 faculty and staff members with over 700 students from 30 nations.
Daljit has over 25 years of academic experience in educational leadership, curriculum innovation and classroom teaching.
“We are confident in Mr. Sohi’s ability to take Dawson to the next level, and we look forward to the School’s future under his leadership. He impressed each and every Dawson community member he met with his experience, depth of knowledge, professionalism, demeanor and passion for education and students,” said Board of Trustees Chairman, John O’Brien. “Additionally, he will bring a strong global perspective to the School’s curriculum and a very high level of technological expertise to our strategic initiatives in educational technological advancements.”
“I was drawn to The Alexander Dawson School by its mission and vision. The mission embraces a philosophy of holistic education “that challenges students to achieve excellence in mind, body and character,” said Mr. Sohi. “This is aligned with my view that a school can have academic rigor while providing students with a well-rounded educational experience. During my visit, I was struck by how engaged the students were in their learning and by the range of resources and opportunities they had at their fingertips.”
Prior to his academic work in China, Sohi served as the Head of Curriculum and Professional Development K-12 at the Atlanta International School for two years, and as the Head of Primary School for five years. His previous experience also includes Head of School at 100 Mile House Elementary School and at Buffalo Creek Elementary School, both in British Columbia, as well as teaching and counseling positions in Canada and the U.S.
Sohi holds a B.A. in Ethnic Relations from the University of British Columbia, an M.Ed. in Counseling from the University of San Diego, an Ed.S.in Instructional Leadership from Argosy University, and is now completing his MBA from Colorado State University. Sohi is fluent in English, French and Punjabi. The Sohi family’s passions include ice hockey, camping and hiking, and traveling.
