Dr. Mohammed Shafi is a partner at Digestive Disease Specialist. Dr. Shafi is a graduate of Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad, India, and completed his internship in Internal Medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio, followed by residency at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. He continued his advanced studies and completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan.
Dr. Shafi is part of the staff at St. Rose Siena Hospital and has been practicing Gastroenterology in Southern Nevada since 1995. His work includes Specialist consultation and performance of endoscopies and colonoscopies for diagnosing digestive problems. He is also involved in clinical teaching for medical students at Touro University. Dr. Shafi has published his research work in various leading journals of medicine. He was the first one to report the Familial Inheritance of Gastric Cancer (Linitis Plastica) in the Annals of Internal Medicine. He has done extensive high-level research in the pathogenesis and causation of colon cancer and is a member of the American College Of Gastroenterology.
Dr. Shafi is passionately involved in local community service. He serves on the Board of Interfaith Council of Southern Nevada, Board of trustees of the Islamic Society of Nevada, and the Board of Directors for the Islamic Information center. He is also a member of the founding Board of Council of American Islamic relations and serves on the Las Vegas Sheriff’s Advisory Council.
Dr. Shafi is the recipient of many awards. He is listed as one of the top doctors in Las Vegas Life 2013, Vegas Inc. Health Care Quarterly 2014, and Consumer’s Research Council of America. He also received the “Business Leadership” award from Citi-Group Financial Corporation and received the Asian American group award for his service to the community in Southern Nevada. Dr. Shafi enjoys traveling, reading, fishing and spending time with his wife and four children.
