Vidhush Ramakrishnan and Sam A. Mehdi Named to College Sponsored National Merit Scholarship
In a remarkable academic achievement of South Asian American community youth, the National Merit Scholarship Corp has announced Vidhush Ramakrishnan and Sam Mehdi from Las Vegas a recipient of College-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship winners. All the scholarship winners are the graduate of the local public schools.
Vidhush Ramakrishnan – Clark High School. National Merit Virginia Commonwealth University Scholarship. Probable career field: Medicine. VCU is a major, urban, public research university with national and international rankings in sponsored research. Located in Richmond, Virginia’s capital city, VCU enrolls more than 31,000 students in 225 degree and certificate programs in the arts, sciences and humanities.
Sam A. Mehdi– The Meadows School. National Merit University of Southern California Scholarship. Probable career field: Software Engineering. The University of Southern California is private, coeducational, and nonsectarian, and is located in the heart of the city of Los Angeles. Undergraduate enrollment is nearly 14,000 students. A College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is complemented by 19 professional and graduate schools offering undergraduate and graduate degrees. Graduate enrollment is about 12,000.
National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced over 3,500 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities. Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the Finalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
This year, 173 higher education institutions are underwriting Merit Scholarship awards through the National Merit Scholarship Program. Sponsor colleges and universities include 95 private and 78 public institutions located in 43 states and the District of Columbia.
College-sponsored Merit Scholarship winners announced are a part of the distinguished group of about 7,600 high school seniors who will receive National Merit Scholarships for college undergraduate study worth over $31 million.
