Fayyaz Raja Elected Chairman of Asian American and Pacific Islander Democratic Caucus
Political activist Democrat Fayyaz Raja is elected Chairman of the Asian American and Pacific Islander Democratic Caucus. With 2018 elections on the horizon, the Clark County Democratic Party formed the Asian American and Pacific Islander Democratic Caucus to launch an aggressive campaign to reach out to over 300,000 Asian Americans in Southern Nevada.
Fayyaz Raja, originally from Pakistan, has resided in Las Vegas for over 35 years. He will be heading the newly formed organization for the period of two years. Previously Raja served as a 2nd Vice Chair of the Clark County Democratic Party. “Asian American and Pacific Islander population is seriously under-represented in the legislative community”, said Raja. He informs vegasdesi that he will be working toward closing the gap in the public understanding of how different demographic groups are impacted by issues such as policy changes in immigration, health care, taxes, and trade.
Fayyaz Raja has been actively involved in the local and statewide politics and has volunteered thousands of hours on campaigns, fund-raising and other political activities. He unsuccessfully ran for the office of the Nevada State Assembly.
Fayyaz first major task as the Chairman of the Caucus is to organize an AAPI Democratic Leadership Power Summit in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 24th.
Raja is a founding member of the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration Alumni Association. He is a graduate of the Citizen’s Police Academy (Las Vegas Metro) and FBI Citizen’s Academy. Currently, Raja is an active member of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Use of Force Review Board and also serves on the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Citizens Review Board. Additionally, Raja is an advisor to the South Asian Political Network Alliance (SAPNA).
