Jason Singh Wins National Merit Scholarship
National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced Jason Singh, Senior at the Green Valley High, as the recipient of 2012- corporate-sponsored merit scholarship winner.
Jason will be awarded with James E. Casey Scholarship named after the founder of United Parcel Service. The scholarship is for the children of United Parcel Service employees and is supported by the UPS Foundation.
Approximately 1,000 distinguished high school seniors have won corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by about 200 corporations, company foundations, and other business organizations.
Jason was selected from students who advanced to the Finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship competition and met criteria of their scholarship sponsors. Corporate sponsors provide National Merit Scholarships for Finalists who are children of their employees, who are residents of communities the company serves, or who plan to pursue college majors or careers the sponsor wishes to encourage.
Most of these awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study.
Last year Jason was ranked fifth in the nation for extemporaenous speaking. Jason has already earned enough advanced placement credits to start college as a sophomore. Last year, he landed a Harvard Prize Book, an award that recognizes juniors who display excellence in scholarship and outstanding personal achievement in other fields.
