Medical Board Suspend Dr. Syed Naeem Ahmed
A psychiatric evaluation of Dr. Ahmed was recently performed to determine his ability to practice medicine with reasonable care and safety. The psychiatric evaluation found that Dr. Ahmed cannot practice medicine with reasonable care and safety.
The Investigative Committee of the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners summarily suspended Cardiothoracic Surgeon Syed Naeem Ahmed, M.D.’s license to practice medicine in the state of Nevada pursuant to Nevada Revised Statute for failing to have the mental capacity to provide medical treatment with reasonable care and safety to patients.
Prior to the suspension the board staff presented sufficient evidence and information to an investigative committee of the Board.
The investigative committee has reasonably determined and believes that the health, safety and welfare of the public is at imminent risk of harm and that a summary suspension of Dr. Ahmed’s license to practice medicine in the State of Nevada is necessary to remove the risk of imminent harm to the health, safety and welfare of the public.
In the past, Dr. Ahmed has settled couple of medical malpractice claims. In 2007 a formal complaint was filed against Dr. Ahmed regarding the treatment of five patients. He was charged with engaging in conduct that is grounds for discipline – three counts of malpractice, four counts of failure to maintain timely, legible, accurate and complete medical records, and one count of continual failure to exercise the skill or diligence or use the methods ordinarily exercised under the same circumstances by physicians in good standing practicing in the same specialty or field.
In 2008, Dr. Ahmed placed on twenty-four (24) months of probation with certain conditions. In April 2010 Dr. Ahmed, successfully completed all the terms of the March 2008, Settlement, Waiver and Consent Agreement and was released from probation.
Dr. Ahmed has lived in Vegas since early eighties. Dr. Ahmed is a graduate of Prince of Wales Medical College, Patna, Bihar and completed his internship and general surgery residency at Vancouver General Hospital, Vancouver, Canada. Dr. Ahmed completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency at Victoria Hospital, Ontario Canada.
