Nevada Board of Medical Examiners Settles with Dr. Devendra Kumar Patel, M.D. and Dr. Priya Chib, M.D.

In relation to the formal complaint, the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners has accepted a settlement agreement between the Board’s Investigative Committee and the two Indian American Physicians – Cardiologist Dr. Devendra Patel, & Pediatrician Dr. Priya Chib. 

The Board entered an order finding Dr. Patel violated Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 630.306(1)(c), illegal dispensing of controlled substances. Due to the violation, Dr. Patel’s license has been revoked, and cannot apply for reinstatement of his medical license for a period of three years. The agreement also calls for reimbursing all the costs and expenses related to the investigation and prosecution. Additionally, Dr. Patel will be publicly reprimanded and the case along with the settlement agreement will be reported to the National Practitioner Data Bank.

NRS 630.306 (1)(C) highlights administering, dispensing or prescribing any controlled substance, or any dangerous drug as defined in chapter 454 of NRS, to or for himself or herself or to others except as authorized by law.

Dr. Patel is a graduate of M.S. University Medical College, Baroda, India and completed his residency at the Catholic Medical Center, Jamaica, New York.  Dr. Patel completed his fellowship at St. Luke’s Rosevelt Hospital, New York.

In case of Dr. Priya Chib, the settlement agreement results in a Public Letter of Reprimand. The agreement also calls for reimbursement by Dr. Chib for the costs and expenses incurred in the investigation and prosecution of the case.  Further, the agreement will be reported to the appropriate entities including the National Practitioner Data Bank. 

The Board entered an Order finding Dr. Priya Chib violated Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 630.301(3), out-of-state discipline imposed (one (1) violation). 

Nevada Revised Statute 630.301(3) states that any disciplinary action, including, without limitation, the revocation, suspension, modification or limitation of a license to practice any type of medicine, taken by another state, the Federal Government, a foreign country or any other jurisdiction or the surrender of the license or discontinuing the practice of medicine while under investigation by any licensing authority, a medical facility, a branch of the Armed Services of the United States, an insurance company, an agency of the Federal Government or an employer.

Dr. Chib was licensed by the Nevada Board of Medical Examiner in November 2016.  She is a graduate of Ross University School of Medicine, St. George, Dominica and completed her internship and residency in Pediatrics from Atlantic Health Systems, Morristown, New Jersey.
