Twenty five year Southern Nevada resident, Swadeep Nigam, announced his candidacy as a Republican in Nevada’s 21st Assembly District.

Nigam, a financial analyst for the Las Vegas Valley Water District and chief financial officer for Palatine Investments LLC, described his decision to seek office as opportunity to “bring economic prosperity and jobs back to Southern Nevada,” and said he would do so while bringing “common sense solutions to Carson City.” Nigam cited his experience in both the private and public sectors as factors which led to his decision to run for elected office. “I believe I can fill a trust gap that exists between the electorate and their representatives” said Nigam.

“As a fiscal conservative, I believe we need legislators who will stand up against tax increases, balance our budgets, and bring transparency and accountability to Carson City.” Nigam, who has an MBA with 30 years of experience in accounting and finance, also highlighted the need to get special interests out of politics. “This starts by electing new people and new faces to the Legislature, those who will only hold themselves accountable to the people who elect them.”

Appointed by Gov. Brian Sandoval to the Nevada Equal Rights Commission, Nigam is also the father of two children, Anjali and Nikhail. He stated the need to improve Nevada’s education system. “Education is the building block of our community.”

He highlighted the need to give parents and students choice in their schools and  equalize the funding disparity between northern and southern Nevada universities.

He has highlighted this issue by creating a $25,000 scholarship with the assistance of the Nevada Policy Research Institute for graduating high school students studying business and public policy.

Nigam was also pleased to announce the endorsement of one of the state’s most respected legislators, Assemblyman John Hambrick of Nevada’s 2nd Assembly District.
