Gurudwara Food Give Away Drive Attracts Thousands

Las Vegas Sikh Community is pleased to announce a successful vegetarian lunch give away to help the community during the current pandemic situation.

Over 450 cars drove through the parking lot of Gurudwara Baba Deep Singh on Saturday, May 9th followed by over 200 cars at the Gurudwara Guru Nanak on Thursday, May 14th.  Gurudwara Baba Deep Singh volunteers handed over 1300 lunch boxes consisting of freshly prepared vegetarian food.  The lunch box included a samosa, rice pulao, garbanzo curry, and matar paneer, along with a gallon of bottled water, and couple of face masks.  “The luncheon giveaway is the Sikh community’s contribution to the Las Vegas community during the tough challenging times,” said Jasvir Deo, a prolific volunteer at both the local Gurudwaras.

Later in the week, the luncheon give-away moved to Gurudwara Guru Nanak on Russell Road where the volunteers handed over another 500+ lunch boxes. There was a steady stream of cars during the luncheon hours at the Gurudwara drive-through makeshift facilities.  “The successful drive is a result of the indefatigable love of giving back to the community by scores of Gurudwara volunteers,” said Guru Nanak Gurudwara board member Mike Kailey.

At both locations, the Las Vegas Metro Police officers were on hand helping direct the lines of vehicles moving through the Gurudwara property.
