In Memoriam: Dr. Nafees Nagy
The medical community of Las Vegas and beyond mourns the passing of a true pioneer, Dr. Nafees Nagy, who died on 2/2/26 in Las Vegas.
Dr. Nagy’s journey was one of brilliance and perseverance. After graduating from medical school in Pakistan, he came to the United States for postgraduate training, studying under the legendary hematologist, Dr. Maxwell Wintrobe. He achieved board certification in both oncology and hematology.
Arriving in Las Vegas at a time when foreign medical graduates faced significant barriers, Dr. Nagy became a fearless advocate for his colleagues. His successful battles against systemic hurdles paved the way for the hundreds of international physicians who now call Las Vegas home and serve its community.
He founded a thriving hematology-oncology practice, recruiting top talent and providing compassionate, expert care to thousands of patients over his long tenure. His impact extended beyond the clinic; he was a sharp financial mind and one of the co-founders of Nevada State Bank, contributing to the city’s economic foundation.
Dr. Nagy is survived by his devoted wife and fellow physician, Dr. Shamin Nagy, his two accomplished sons, neurosurgeon Dr. Aury Nagy and neurologist Dr. Abraham Nagy, and his four grandchildren. He also leaves behind a legacy of gratitude from countless patients, colleagues, and friends.
He was more than a physician; he was a builder of institutions, a champion for the underdog, and a cornerstone of the Las Vegas medical community. His contributions will forever be remembered.
May his soul rest in eternal peace. With respectful condolences.
Dr. RD Prabhu & Family (On behalf of many grateful colleagues and friends)
