Indian Food Festival/Vaisakhi Mela Makes Triumphant Return to Las Vegas

After a six-year break, the much-awaited Indian Food Festival organized by Baba Deep Singh Gurdwara made a vibrant comeback, drawing over 3,500 members of the Las Vegas community. A kaleidoscope of South Asian cultures mingled with local residents, celebrating the sights, sounds, dancing and, of course, flavors of India.
While clouds and wind dominated earlier in the day, festival-goers were treated to a beautiful appearance of sunshine after 4 PM before the light clouds reclaimed the spring sky, and wind subsided by later in the evening.
The heart of the celebration was, of course, the food. With more than 16 local Indian restaurants participating, the festival offered a mouthwatering array of Indian street snacks, traditional fare, and regional delicacies. From chaat to curries and biryanis, there was something to satisfy every craving. Mint India Restaurant’s stall, known for its crowd-pleasing masala dosas, experienced a constant stream of eager foodies, showcasing the community’s enduring love for South Indian flavors.
“The turnout was incredible. It was amazing to see so many people, both from the Indian community and the wider Las Vegas area, come together to celebrate,” said the first time attendee and a three-month resident of Las Vegas.
Grand sponsors Anthem Injury Lawyers generously supported the event, contributing a significant donation to bring the largest Indian community celebration back to life.
Beyond culinary delights, attendees enjoyed shopping for vibrant ethnic fashion and visiting various booths offering services like tarot card readings and henna art, all of which reported brisk business throughout the day.
To the enthusiastic applause of attendees, Indian-American Nevada State Assemblyman Reuben D’Silva announced his efforts to establish an official observed holiday in the State of Nevada. D’Silva introduced Assembly Bill 82, which aims to have the governor annually proclaim Vaisakhi as official day of observance.
The Vaisakhi Mela – Indian Food Festival not only showcased the richness of Indian cuisine and culture but also reinforced Las Vegas’s growing embrace of multicultural events. With this year’s turnout and energy, organizers and attendees alike are already looking forward to what the next year will bring.
