Assemblyman Reuben D’Silva’s Assembly Bill Allows Out-of-State DACA Students to be Eligible for In-State College Tuition


Newly elected Indian-American Assemblyman D’Silva’s bill prohibits the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents from denying an exemption from tuition charges to a student solely on the basis that the student or the family of the student is not lawfully present in the United States if the student or family of the student has been granted temporary protected status by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services; or received a grant of deferred action under the federal policy of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
Recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program who move to Nevada would qualify for in-state college tuition after 12 months of living in the state if lawmakers pass AB226, a bill sponsored by Assemblyman Reuben D’Silva (D-Las Vegas).
