Concert by World-Renowned Sitarist Reshma Shrivastava
After a long gap, the community is invited to enjoy the traditional Sitar concert by globally acclaimed Sitarist Reshma Shrivastava on Thursday, August 18th.
International performing artist, Reshma Srivastava, M.A. was born into a family of musicians in Allahabad, India. Her uncle, Prof. Satish Chandra, an artist from Pt. Ravi Shankar’s tradition, was her first teacher.
Reshma began her lifelong musical career on the sitar when she was six years old and gave her first public performance at the age of eight. At twenty, she became an A grade artist, appearing frequently on All India Radio and Television. Reshma received her Master’s in Music from the University of Allahabad. Among her many awards, she was honored in the Vedic tradition with the titles Sur Mani (Master of Notes) and Prayag Gaurav (Pride of Prayag‚ Allahabad),
Reshma maintains a busy travel schedule. To date, she has performed in India, Great Britain, Belgium, Holland, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, Cyprus, Greece, Slovenia, Turkey, Israel, Croatia and across the United States.
She is a frequent visiting instructor at Maharishi European Research University (MERU) in Holland, where she teaches courses on Maharishi Gandharva Veda, an ancient form of music that forms the basis of Indian classical music.
Reshma has recorded six CD’s and currently offers private lessons to help students master the fine art of sitar around the world via Skype.
