Message to the Community from the incoming Friends of India President, Saroj Chatterjee…
It is with great humility and enthusiasm, I accept your support to become the President of Friends of India Las Vegas for the next two years. I will work hard and do my best to continue FOILV’s great tradition of bringing our vibrant community together through social and cultural activities. Fortunately, we have been able to form a team of very dedicated and hard working volunteers. So I am confident that, with your engagement and support, we will have a very good future.
Our first activity this year will be the annual Holi celebration on Sunday, April 6th starting at 11 am. We plan to have the celebration in the format of a mela. There will be children’s fun activities like puppet show, folk dances, vendors for food and fashion items, and of course good Holi colors. Weather should be great for the fun filled outdoor activities. It will take place at the beautiful Cornerstone Park at Henderson.
Our team is very excited about the event and getting all the pieces together. You must come and make it very successful.
Respectfully, Saroj Chatterjee

Friends of India’s Holi Celebration Promising To be Super Exciting!
The newly elected Friends of India team is organizing the annual Holi celebration on Sunday, April 6 at 11 AM at the Cornerstone Park in Henderson. I want to tell you about the exciting menu of activities they have created to make it totally memorable for you.
The day will start with the team welcoming you with the savory taste of sizzling samosas, pakoras with chutney and chai. The team has reserved two large shaded areas. Plenty of tables and chairs have been rented. There will be large space for people to enjoy the day under the shade.
The cultural program will start at about noon. This year’s focus is to present folk dances of different parts of India showcasing our cultural diversity. One of the highlights of the day and perhaps the first time in Vegas is a puppet show. The Rajasthani Association’s creative team has put together a very exciting show with music, dance and drama by the puppets which surely will bring out your childhood memories from India. Kids will have a blast. And the adults will be able to let loose the kids inside them. There will be folk dances from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Kerala, & Tamil Nadu. Our own danseuse, Ms. Santrupti Margad, has choregraphed an exciting ‘Tiger Dance’ with men and boys. These adult and baby tigers will give an adorable and unique performance with an awesome music track that makes you feel a bit scary yet very funny. Many of you have seen or heard about Ghoomar dance from Rajasthan. Our veteran dance choreographer, Ms. Chandra Mehta, has put together a dance with thirty ladies dressed in strikingly colorful costumes dancing round and round to the beautiful Ghoomar rhythm. And, what is a better way to include everyone and have great fun dancing in a large group. You guessed it right – its garba. So please come dressed up in your garba outfits and a fun mood to join the dance and make your experience truly memorable.
Once you think you have danced enough and feeling a bit hungry, the team will have lunch waiting for you. Lunch would be on-site freshly cooked mouthwatering vegetarian meal. You are going to love the food that India Palace team will prepare for you. This would also be a good time to socialize a bit also. Once you feel you had enough to eat, our DJ ‘s sizzling tracks will surely draw you to the dance floor and let you have the most fun you can have. The grand finale of course in the game of Holi. There will be plenty of color ready for you in the grass area and you will let the fun of Holi with joy and friendship begin.
This is going to be a great combination of experiencing our rich culture, great dances, tasty food and of course the fun of Holi. You will not be able to beat that. Entry fee is only $20 for members and $30 for non-members that will include food, entertainment, Holi colors and a great fun filled day spent with your family and friends. Come and join this awesome fun event and feel like you are back in India..
