Radhika Kunnel Announces She Is Running For Nevada State Assembly
With over 25 supporters in attendance and County Commissioner Tick Segerblom on her side, Radhika Kunnel launched her campaign with overwhelming political energy on December 3rd at the Pancho Restaurant in Downtown Summerlin.
County Commissioner Tick Segerblom, a sincere and committed friend of the Indian community, has overwhelmingly endorsed the candidacy of Radhika. Introducing Radhika, Commissioner Segerblom emphasized Radhika’s accomplishment and her commitment to the constituents of Assembly District 2. “With impressive resume, she is a rocket scientist on steroids and going to be a lawyer too, so watch out,” said Commissioner Segerblom.
Commissioner Segerblom continued, “Asian community is a huge voting bloc in the United States and Las Vegas particularly. This is an opportunity for Asian community to get behind the great candidate, by far the best candidate obviously.”
In her first public speech, Radhika talked about her arrival 25 years back to the United States. “I landed with a dream that I envisioned when I was in 8thgrade in a biology class…wanted to be a genetic engineer,” said Radhika. She continued, “I also landed with a picture of what America should be where everyone is treated equally, everyone is educated, education is available for anyone that wants to get and dreams are possible for anyone.”
However, in addressing the attendees Radhika was short on specifics such as her political and economic agenda and did not talk about why she is running and what she will do to improve the life of Nevadans.
Radhika moved to Las Vegas about three years back from Mississippi. Currently, Radhika is pursuing a Law degree from UNLV. Before moving to Las Vegas, Radhika was an Associate Professor at the Cancer Institute and Department of Biochemistry at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, Mississippi. Before that, she was an Assistant Professor at the Tulane University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Radhika completed her Master of Science and a Doctorate in Cancer Biology from Louisiana State University, New Orleans. Before moving to the United States, Radhika completed her Master of Science from the University of Baroda, India.
