Vaisakhi Family Day Attracts Overwhelming Crowd
Guru Nanak Gurudwara celebrated first ever Vaisakhi Family Day on Sunday, April 22nd with over five hundred members of the local diverse community in attendance. There was NO CHARGE, including all the freshly prepared gourmet Indian delicacies, to attend the exceptionally well-executed event.
The big celebration expected more than normal devotees to the Gurudwara to celebrate Vaisakhi. To accommodate all the devotees, Gurudwara erected a special tent for continuous prayers by Bhai Randhir Singh, Bhai Narinder Singh, and other visiting Sikh priests.
The volunteer team planned meticulously for weeks to celebrate Vaisakhi with activities for kids, art and henna booth, and most importantly the great selection of freshly prepared vegetarian food along with lassi drink in multiple flavors.
Committed team of volunteers were helping the attendees and serving Northern and Southern Indian savory onsite preparations including Dosas, Chholey Bhaturey, range of Pakoras, Samosas, Gol Gappey, Fresh Dahi Bhaley, Chaat, Makki Roti with butter and Saag, along with full lunch buffet consisting of Dal, Shahi Paneer, Pulao and Veggie Curries. India Palace, Pure Indian Cuisine, and Gandhi India Restaurant participated and donated all the food for the celebrations. Other than the generosity of these three Indian restaurants, Gurudwara volunteers prepared and served homemade Indian sweets – Gajrela, Gulab Jamun and more, including hot jalebis, prepared onsite.
Children activities included multiple bounce houses, shaved ice, and ice cream in multiple flavors.
Additionally, the crowd had an opportunity to meet former First Assistant Attorney General Wes Duncan, currently a candidate for the NV State Attorney General, and Minddie Lloyd, candidate for the County Clerk. Both, Wes and Minddie were welcomed by the organizers and were seen mingling in the crowd and savoring all the food they could. Attendees appreciated the outreach efforts by both the candidates, had a one-on-one conversation and got to know their election platform.
