Arpan Dance Academy Students to Perform Kathak at Dream Asia Food & Cultural Festival

Get ready to immerse yourself in the vibrant cultures of Asia as the Three Days Festival takes over the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center from February 14-16.
One of the festival’s highlights is the performance by the Arpan Dance Academy students on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, at 2:30 PM. This talented group of young dancers will take to the stage to showcase their skills and entertain the audience with a captivating display of traditional Indian Kathak dance under the direction of Santrupti Margad, Instructor and Dr. Bratati Saha Director of the Arpan Dance Academy.

The group will open with a popular song from the Netflix hit series Heeramandi, followed by an upbeat Kathak rendition of a Bollywood song – Tere Rang. Then, a solo performance by Arpan Las Vegas Director Santrupti Margad to a popular Shayari and a Sargam. The group will end the performance with a classical technical kathak piece with swift turns and fast footwork to modern Indian Tarana music.

The cultural festivities will include music, dance, and other performances that showcase the diversity of Asian cultures. No celebration of Asian cultures would be complete without a delicious array of food options. The festival will feature a wide range of Asian cuisine, from spicy street food to traditional desserts. Visitors can sample dishes from different regions and countries and enjoy the flavors and aromas of Asia.
The talented performers from Arpan Dance Academy include –
Santrupti Margad – Arpan Dance Academy’s instructor Santrupti’s love for Kathak started in 2008 with Mrs. Bratati Saha in Ashburn, VA. She began her journey in Kathak under her and is still associated with Arpan Dance Academy. She has performed at several cultural and corporate events across Virginia, Maryland, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and the AKKA World Kannada Conference in Edison, NJ. Although Santrupti enjoys several other forms of dance and extensively performed Sala, Jazz, and Hip-hop, Kathak’s deep cultural history and devotional aspect have remained her most mesmerizing dance form.
Tashi Kothari – Tashi is a talented and devoted Kathak dancer known for her grace and passion for the art form. Since age 10, she has been learning Kathak for 18 months under the expert mentorship of Santrupti Margad at Arpan Dance Academy, where her passion and talent continue to blossom. When she’s not dancing, Tashi excels as a dedicated student and is well-loved by her peers for her kindness and supportive nature.
Shreya Sharma – Shreya is a young, passionate, budding Kathak dancer. At 11, she has been learning Kathak for the past 18 months. Apart from Kathak, Shreya is a great scholar and a very kind friend at school.
Dipika Dabhadkar – Dipika has been a student of Kathak for the past 18 months. “Kathak has become a way for me to move, express myself, and explore something beyond my daily life as a mom and my profession in data,” said Dipika.
Deepika Jain – For the past 18 months, Deepika has been passionately committed to learning traditional Kathak dance. She started this journey to give her daughter, Shreya, company at the dance school and continued on this exciting path. Off the dance floor, Deepika is a homemaker and IT professional.
Adreeta Guha – A trained Hindustani Classical musician and vocalist, Adreeta was inspired to watch her peers perform Kathak and followed the works of eminent Kathak artists since her late teens. She joined Arpan Las Vegas in August 2023 and has been learning and performing this beautiful art form since then.
