As the 2026 primary election season approaches, Nevada voters are preparing to participate in a system that blends both partisan and nonpartisan elected positions. Early voting is set to begin on Monday, May 23, and will continue through June 5, offering voters an ample opportunity to cast their ballots ahead of June 9 Election Day.

Nevada operates under a closed primary system, meaning that voters registered with a political party may only vote for candidates within that same party. For example, Democratic voters select among Democratic candidates, while Republican voters choose among Republican contenders. However, the state’s primary election is not limited solely to party-specific contests. A significant portion of Nevada’s ballot consists of nonpartisan races, which are open to all registered voters regardless of political affiliation. These include many judicial positions, such as district court judges, justices of the peace, and appellate court seats, reflecting the state’s stand on maintaining neutrality in the judicial system.
