Dusshera Mela+Celebrations at the Hindu Mandir

Hindu and Jain Temple of Las Vegas invites the community to their annual Dusshera festivities on Sunday, October 29th, at the Mandir’s newly constructed festival grounds. This year’s theme is Food, Children Play Area, Garba Dandia show, Henna stall and more.

Bring in the whole family & friends and enjoy some homemade food, indulge in ethnic shopping followed by the burning of Ravana’s effigy. The festivities are open to ALL, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and/or national origin.

The festival of Dusshera or Vijay Dashmi celebrates the Hindu god Rama’s victory over the demon king Ravana and the triumph of righteousness.  In that spirit, your Hindu Mandir is once again celebrating Dusshera with a kaleidoscope of homemade, gourmet delicacies from different regions of India, children’s activities, and ethnic shopping, followed by the burning of effigies of Ravana.

Some Hindus also celebrate Dusshera as a part of their main festival – Durga Puja. This day marks the end of Durga Pooja celebrations, the preceding nine days collectively referred to as ‘Navratri’. Vijayadashmi is dedicated to Mother Goddess Durga.  On Vijayadashmi, the idols of Goddess Durga are immersed in water after the nine days of festivities. Dusshera is one festival celebrated by over 1.5 billion Hindus worldwide with carnivals, plays, and other forms of entertainment. It is also the beginning of the holiday/festival season in India.
