In an ongoing commitment to education, Devyani and Jagdish Mehta have matched the Review-Journal scholarship to Devika Bhatnagar, a winner of the 2022 Review-Journal Academic Excellence Award Winner. During their annual award banquet, Devika received $500 in scholarship and a matching $500 for her high school from the Review-Journal. 

After reading the news in this publication on RJ’s award winner Devika’s academic and community involvement, Mehta’s decided to honor Devika with matching funds based on her financial needs and volunteer work with the local Indian community. The philanthropic commitment from retired physician Devyani Mehta, M.D., and her husband, Professor Jagdish Mehta, Ph.D., surprised Devika as there’s no precedent from the local Indian community to help financially struggling Indian-American students.  

“After learning about the academic excellence award winner Devika’s impressive academic credentials and community involvement, my wife and I decided to match the scholarship funds to further her academic aspirations,” said Jagdish Mehta.  

Apart from being active in sports, Devaki represents the students as the Youth Legislator in the Nevada Youth Legislator.  While accepting the check, Devaki commented, “I sincerely thank Prof. Jagdish and Dr. Devyani Mehta Ji for their generosity in matching my award money.  This money will definitely help me worry less about my future college funding.”  Currently a Junior at Liberty High, Devaki is planning to pursue her higher studies at UNLV with the ultimate goal of becoming a lawyer.
