Raj Kaur Receives Suspended Sentence After Pleading Guilty to Theft Attempt

Las Vegas resident Raj Kaur, a casino employee, received a suspended sentence following a guilty plea to a reduced charge of theft attempt, classified as a gross misdemeanor under state law. The charges stemmed from allegations of fraudulent use of a credit card, which led to her arrest by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (Metro).
The Metro charged and arrested Ms. Kaur on one count of theft attempt. The State accused Kaur of committing a crime related to the fraudulent use of a credit card by controlling and depriving the credit card holder and the Royal Bank Visa of their property. Further, Kaur was accused of making an unauthorized transfer of interest without authorization and obtaining property and/or services through fraudulent credit card charges. After facing these serious allegations, Kaur opted to plead guilty to the theft attempt charge. Kaur, who a public defender represented, was provided with a Punjabi interpreter.
Per the plea agreement, the State did not oppose probation for Ms. Kaur and reduced the charges to a gross misdemeanor. Defendant Kaur was adjudged guilty and given a suspended sentence of 364 days with credit for 3 days served at the Clark County Detention Center. This means she will not serve the full 364-day jail term unless she violates the conditions set by the court during her probation period.
Ms. Kaur is placed on probation for an indeterminate period not to exceed one year. Defendant Kaur agreed to pay the restitution and was ordered out of the Las Vegas Strip corridor except for her employment at the off-strip hotel-casino.
While Kaur avoided jail time, the suspended sentence means she will be under supervision and must adhere to the court’s conditions. If she fails to meet the requirements, she could face a harsher sentence, including potential jail time.
