Reader Questions to the Chair of Hindu Temple

I attended the General Body Meeting of The Hindu Society of Nevada on December 14, 2025. Unfortunately, because of the chaotic and unruly proceedings, I could not ask any questions. Hindu community of Las Vegas deserves answers to the following questions:

Based on analysis of the 2020 to 2023 Financial Statements posted on the temple website, the following discrepancies exist:

Year end current assets do not reconcile with the cash flow. The year end current assets changed from $309,550 to $ 411,251 (net increase of $101,701) in four years. While net operating income, as reported, the total cash flow for 2020-2023 adds up as $156,522 net operating income plus Trustees’ membership of $200,000, total $356,522.

There are serious issues of financial mismanagement and incorrect accounting. All the four yearly financial statements should be audited by an independent auditor selected by all the trustees, not only active trustees who may have conflict of interest.

Could the Chairman explain the discrepancies in accounting? Is a budget for 2025 prepared and presented to the Trustees?

Board of Trustees Meetings:

According to the Temple By- Law 6.2 “Notice” of meeting “shall be in writing and shall be mailed to all Trustees,” It means not only active trustees.

Does the Board have any record of the notices of meetings when the budget and expense of the parking lot and other projects were approved?

Could the Chairman make minutes of the meetings (e. g. the Minutes of June 6, 2024 minutes currently posted on the Temple website) public or present them to the Board of Trustees?

The projects cost a majority of the funds of the temple. Was a cost-benefit analysis done for the major expense? Could the chairman present the process and its records to the Board of Trustees?

Temple Lawsuit

How was the decision to file a lawsuit against some Temple trustees and officials made? Are there any records of meetings when the decision was made? Were all the Trustees, including inactive ones, invited? Are the imagined “hostile takeover” and personal disagreements and grievances justifiable reason to put the temple’s financial health in jeopardy? Why is the lawsuit not an irresponsible action by plaintiffs and total disregard, and violation of fiduciary responsibility, hence expellable action by the Chairman?

Conclusion

Has the Chairman conducted his duties by using active trustees’ unrestrained power to mismanage the functions and operations of the Hindu and Jain Temple of Nevada?

Has Mr. Latpate misused the active Trustees’ clause in the by-laws to grab power, abuse it, and now lost the support and confidence of the Hindu community in him, and the temple management?

Why should Mr. Latpate not resign? And if he does not, can the majority vote of all the trustees remove him for a cause?
