Two Homicides – Deadly Start to 2025 for Las Vegas Indian Community

Many members of the Southern Nevada Indian community are in shock about the two homicides of young community members in less than two weeks. It’s incredibly distressing to hear that two homicides occurred within such a short span of time, especially at the start of the new year.

On January 12th, another young member of the community, Manjeet Singh, 25, was brutally beaten by two individuals at the 7-11 in North Las Vegas. As per the members of the local Indian business community, the case was about shoplifting, where two individuals tried to leave the store with a beer case without paying. Singh went after them and tried to stop them from leaving the store without paying. Outside the store, the perpetrators thrashed Singh with a baseball bat repeatedly on the head. Currently, the physicians at the local hospital have declared Singh clinically dead. Manjeet Singh’s death is a tragic loss, and the circumstances of the attack only intensify the grief felt by the Indian small business community.
With no immediate family in the United States, the local community has created a GoFundMe page to raise money to help Manjeet Singh’s family.
The efforts of the local Indian community to support his family during such a difficult time are commendable. They are rallying together to help cover the costs of bringing Singh’s parents to the U.S. and providing them with the support they need.

Earlier, on January 2nd, the Metro officers received a report of a dead person near the North Las Vegas railroad tracks in the area of West Owens Avenue and Stocker Street. The man, later identified as Navdeep Oberoi, 29, was declared dead at the scene and was transported to the coroner’s office. On January 3rd, an autopsy was performed, and the medical examiner determined Oberoi had suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and ruled the death a homicide. After contacting the active members of the local Indian community, this publication cannot get any further information on Oberoi.
After a swift investigation, Metro detectives were able to arrest a suspect, a 30-year-old, in connection with the death of Oberoi.
