University Regents approve a $290,000 annual salary contract with Dr. Hiren Patel, M.D., Assistant Professor, Pulmonology and Critical Care in the Department of Internal Medicine, University of Nevada School of Medicine.

The $290,000 salary for Dr. Patel exceeds the maximum on the salary schedule of $184,224.  The approval is required for faculty hires when the employment salary exceeds the maximum amount on the salary schedule.

Dr. Patel’s salary will be supported by University Medical Center funds.  In justification for approving the salary, the management feels that appointing Dr. Patel will improve the quality of the resident and student training, plus help develop fellowship training in pulmonary critical care.  The long term goal is to train pulmonary critical care physicians who will stay and practice in Nevada.

Dr. Patel is a 2005 graduate of Ross Medical School, Dominica, West Indies.  He completed his residency, internship and fellowship in the pulmonary diseases from the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey.
