Paresh Joshi Applied for the Library Board Trustee. County Commissioners Select Another Candidate
Paresh Joshi, a 22-year resident of Las Vegas, applied for a volunteer position as a Board Member of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. After reviewing Joshi’s background, the County Commissioners selected Claytee White, Director of the Oral History Research Center at UNLV, who better matches the community values and has an extensive volunteering background.
In his application, Joshi highlighted his 20 years of professional and volunteer experience as a President (Hindu Temple), Chair, Tech Lead, Analyst, and Supervisor. Since 2002, Joshi has been an employee of Southwest Gas Corporation, where he is currently the Supervisor of Application Services.
“I have always loved books and libraries and have been involved with books in one way or another since my childhood. I have been a library patron since I moved to Vegas in 2001. During my tenure at Hindu Temple, we built partnerships with the library district and organized multiple cultural shows at Windmill Library,” Joshi wrote in support of his application for the Board of Trustees.
“I want to thank all the applicants who put their names in. There is one applicant that rose to the top and I want to recommend Claytee White to serve on the Las Vegas for the four-year terms ending September 2027,” said Commissioner William McCurdy at the Commission meeting.
Commissioner William McCurdy II made a motion, which was unanimously passed, to select Claytee White to serve on the Las Vegas for the four-year terms ending September 2027. Since 2003, White has been a Director of the Oral History Research Center at UNLV, has served on the MOB Museum’s Board of Directors, and has volunteered at other community organizations.
An independent Board of Trustees governs the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. The Board consists of 10 members, five appointed by Clark County and five appointed by the City of Las Vegas. Members serve 4-year terms and may not serve more than two consecutive terms.
