Roopa Krithivasan Named Boulder City Library District Board Trustee

Clark County Commissioners unanimously voted to appoint Boulder City resident Roopa Krithivasan, Ph.D., to the Boulder City Library District Board of Trustees. The Board’s decision was based on the recommendation of the Boulder City Library Board.
The vacancy opened due to the resignation of one of the Board Trustees. Applicants were solicited to fill the seat for the remainder of the term. Five Boulder City residents applied for the vacated seat position. On the recommendation of the Board of Trustees, the County Commissioners appointed Roopa Krithivasan for the remainder of a term ending September 5, 2027.

As per her application for the Trustee position, Roopa has nearly 15 years of professional experience as a researcher and data analyst, primarily at academic and non-profit institutions.
In a prepared statement, Roopa said, “As a town resident and library patron, I have a strong interest in maintaining our community’s access to the high-quality resources, programs, and spaces that our public library has to offer.”
Roopa brings over ten years of experience in social, ecological, and conservation research. She has a background in grant writing and fundraising. Currently, Roopa is working as a Senior Data Strategist at Elevate. Before joining Elevate, Roopa served as the Director of Research for Portland, Maine-based Defend Our Health, a non-profit dedicated to safe food and drinking water, healthy homes, and products that are toxic-free and climate-friendly.
Roopa has an impeccable academic and research credentials. She completed her PhD in Geography at Clark University, where she studied human-wildlife interactions, collective farming practices, and agricultural change in the Indian Himalayas. Roopa earned her Master’s in Environmental Science from Yale University and a Bachelor’s in Biology from the University of Chicago.
Prior to her PhD, she worked as a social scientist at the World Wildlife Fund in Washington DC, as a climate change intern at the National Parks Service, and as a lemur behavior research assistant in Madagascar.
