Anti–Hindu Mandir Henderson Mayor Receives Over $10,000 in Political Contributions at a Fundraiser Hosted by Dr. Gautham Reddy
Dr. Gautham Reddy reportedly raised more than $10,000 from members of the local Indian Hindu community through a political fundraiser in support of Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero, whom critics describe as anti-Hindu for repeatedly voting against the proposed Hindu Mandir in Henderson.
The largest donation, $5,000, came from the host, Dr. Gautham Reddy. Interestingly, Dr. Reddy, a Henderson resident for over 20 years, is not registered to vote in Clark County.
Despite protests from segments of the Indian-American Hindu community, Dr. Reddy proceeded with the fundraiser on October 3, 2025, in support of Mayor Romero. The event was jointly hosted by Dr. Gautham Reddy and Rita Vaswani’s Asian American Group and took place at Dr. Reddy’s residence in Anthem Country Club.
Critics allege that Mayor Romero has supported policies or actions viewed as anti-Hindu, which has fueled community opposition to the fundraiser. One of the members of the local Las Vegas Hindu community, who also testified in support of the Henderson Hindu Mandir at the city council meeting, wrote, “We feel compelled to inform you that during her tenure as a City Councilwoman, Ms. Romero was the only vote against the proposed Hindu Mandir in Henderson. This Mandir project had received strong support and recommendation for approval from city staff, the city attorney, and the planning commission, and was in full compliance with federal laws that protect the right to establish religious institutions regardless of zoning designations.”
One of the Mandir supporters said, “Dr. Gautham Reddy was trapped into hosting the fundraiser by Rita Vaswani of the Asian American Group.”
Following, attendees donated to Mayor Romero’s re-election campaign.
