Harvard Alumna Sonia Nagala Chang Launches Mini Maker Academy to Empower Generation Alpha Through Financial Literacy
Startup entrepreneur and Harvard alumna Sonia Nagala Chang, daughter of Las Vegas residents Rup and Vani Nagala, is bringing financial literacy to the next generation with the launch of Mini Maker Academy.

Designed for Generation Alpha—children born between 2010 and 2024—Mini Maker Academy aims to introduce young minds to the fundamentals of financial literacy and responsible money management from an early age.
The academy’s mission goes beyond the traditional concept of children earning a weekly or monthly allowance for completing household chores. Mini Maker Academy seeks to help children understand how money works, how to manage it, how to make thoughtful financial decisions, and how today’s choices can shape their future.
For many American children, financial education rarely goes much deeper than counting coins or solving word problems about apples and allowance money. “Schools just aren’t teaching these concepts in any structured way,” says Sonia Nagala Chang (MBA 2012). She discovered this “clear, universal gap” when her own three children, now 6, 8, and 10, started asking questions about money: “Kids are curious, but they aren’t learning decision-making or building good early money habits.”
