Husband And Wife, Mandeep Singh and Jaspreet Kaur, Plead Guilty To Criminal Charges

Attorney General of Nevada Aaron Ford has stated that his office is committed to rooting out corruption and prosecuting crimes of fraud and deceit.  To that end, AG Ford has succeeded in prosecuting husband and wife, Mandeep Singh and Jaspreet Kaur, as evidenced by their recent guilty pleas to serious criminal charges.

Mandeep Singh plead guilty to the felony crime of securities fraud while his wife Jaspreet Kaur plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit theft.

Singh was charged by the Nevada Attorney General with securities fraud in 2016 with an offer to sell or purchase stocks and/or limited partnership interest in Varinder Singh’s company, Quick Biodiagnostic Laboratory (QBL).  Mandeep Singh told Varinder Singh that he had taken out a loan to fund part or all of his purchase of the stocks and/or limited partnership interest and had deposited or arranged for the deposit of money into QBL’s bank account for payment or partial payment of the purchase price of said stocks.  However, Mandeep Singh, according to the Attorney General, unlawfully omitted the material fact that he had used QBL’s and/or Varinder Singh’s name and information to apply for and obtain the loan.  The money deposited into QBL’s bank account came from the loan that Mandeep Singh took out using QBL’s and Varinder Singh’s names.  In pleading guilty, Singh admitted that “I understand that by pleading guilty  I admit the facts that support all the elements of the offense(s) to which I now plead.”

As per the guilty plea, Singh will be allowed to travel out of state for the sole purpose of work/employment.  Additionally, Singh has agreed to pay restitution in an amount to be determined by the court and to be distributed to his victims Harpreet Kaur, Harpal Padam, Jim Kauffman, Anshu Pathak, Shyam Kannam, and Varinder Singh.

As a consequence of pleading guilty to the crime of securities fraud, Singh understands that the Court must sentence him to imprisonment in the Nevada Department of Corrections for a minimum term of not less than one year and a maximum term of not more than twenty years.  If Singh fails to follow up on the plea conditions or fails to appear at any subsequent hearings, in this case, the State will have the unqualified right to increase Singh’s sentence as a habitual criminal to five to twenty years.

Clark County Division of Parole and Probation will prepare a report for the sentencing judge prior to sentencing.  The report will include relevant matters related to the sentencing and crime committed by Singh.  The sentencing judge has the discretion to sentence Singh to probation.  At this time Singh has not been promised or guaranteed any particular sentence by anyone.

Mandeep Singh’s wife, Jaspreet Kaur plead guilty to the crime of one count of conspiracy to commit theft. Kaur was charged by the Nevada Attorney General accusing Kaur who conspiring with her husband Mandeep Singh to unlawfully obtaining $3,500 or more from Harpreet Kaur and Harpal Padam by material misrepresentation in an investment scheme and stopping payment on the check written by Jaspreet.

As per her guilty plea agreement, Kaur agrees to pay restitution in the amount of $21,500, jointly and severally with husband Mandeep Singh to Harpreet Kaur and Harpal Padam.  As a consequence of the guilty plea to conspiracy to commit theft, the court must sentence Kaur to imprisonment in the county jail for a minimum term of not more than 364 days or a fine of not more than $2,000 or both fine and imprisonment.  However, the State will not oppose probation.

In Kaur’s case as well, the Division of Parole and Probation will prepare a report for the sentencing judge prior to sentencing.

Sentencing in both the above cases is set for September 9th, 2022.
