Milan Chatterjee Appointed to the American Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists’ National Board of Governors

Milan Chatterjee, Esq. was appointed to the American Association of Jewish Lawyers & Jurists’s (“AAJLJ”) National Board of Governors at their Annual Meeting, while receiving additional charge as Vice President of the Western Region.

Nevada Lieutenant Governor Kate Marshall, Attorney General Aaron Ford, and Supreme Court Justice Elissa Cadish were present at Milan’s appointment, along with his parents Saroj and Nirmalya Chatterjee.

Milan will oversee the governance of AAJLJ’s national organization, while expanding the organization’s footprint in Western Region states. He will continue serving as Founding President of AAJLJ’s Nevada chapter.

The AAJLJ is a national nonprofit association that advances legal and human rights in the Jewish and wider community. Every year, the organization bestows a prestigious “Pursuit of Justice award” to America’s leading jurists. Past recipients of this award include U.S. Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, and Elena Kagan, and former U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey.

Milan received national acclaim for advancing civil rights in the Jewish community. As UCLA’s Graduate Student Body President, Milan advocated for a balanced public forum on the Israel-Palestine conflict, but received opposition from extremist groups demanding the “boycott” of Jewish students. Along with standing up to this intense pressure at UCLA, Milan continues to be a widely respected, national advocate for the Jewish community’s civil rights. In 2016, the American Jewish Committee gave Milan their inaugural “Campus Courage Award.”

In Nevada, Milan founded an AAJLJ chapter that unites the Jewish legal community, and hosts legal, academic, and networking events. The AAJLJ-Nevada Board of Directors consists of Nevada’s leading officials and attorneys, including:  Lieutenant Governor Kate Marshall, Attorney General Aaron Ford, Supreme Court Justices Elissa Cadish, Kristina Pickering, and Doug Herndon, Fmr. Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison, Court of Appeals Judge Bonnie Bulla, State District Court Judges Ron Israel and Joanna Kishner, Assemblywoman Lisa Krasner, UNLV Law Professor Leslie Griffin, attorneys Patricia Glaser, David Chesnoff, Greg Kamer, Richard Dreitzer, Joshua Reisman, Jacob Reynolds, and Scott Lachman, and former Regional Director of the Department of Education’s Civil Rights Office Arthur Zeidman.

Is Milan Jewish? Aren’t there many many real Jewish attorneys? It doesn’t add up.

In reply to the above comment. You must be a recent immigrant. Anyone can join any organization in this country subject to one’s own professional interests. Most of the immigrant Desis are not involved in community activities, however, sometimes the get involved only with irrelevant DESI organizations for their own hyped up egos and infighting. Kudos to the community leader like Milan who is involved with many local American civic organizations. Moreover, probably Milan is not an immigrant. He could be very well the first generation proud Indian America.
