POLITICS OF RIOTS: LOCAL & GLOBAL – Guest Author Professor Satish Bhatnagar, Ph.D.

For the last couple of weeks, there has been a lot of hue and cry over the screening and banning of the two-part documentary, India: The Modi Question – produced by the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation). This has gained a momentum and a kind of notoriety by the recently released Hindi movie, Pathaan. Has anyone wondered at the timing, connections, money lines and organizations behind them, and a few such schemes in the pipeline? For historical reasons, present generations of Hindus have no global vision even of the affairs deeply affecting them. Period.

The BBC, since its founding in 1922,  has been lately employing Hindu journalists to write against the Hindus, now specifically against Modi. Why? The big picture is to stir the pot and plot of unrest against the nationalist Hindus, BJP and Modi as the 2024 Parliamentary elections near. Modi is the main target as he remains a formidable leader for a third term as PM.

This policy of hostility is  equally true of media giants like, New York Times, AP, UPI etc. I do not  know even a single global media supporting Hindu causes. At the same time on the amorphous Hindu front, neither an Hindu organization like the RSS or BJP, nor an individual Hindu billionaire like Ambani or Adani has ever taken an initiative to create a comparable media outlet for countering the global opposition to Hindu causes, ideology, history and politics. In this context, the example of Bloomberg News, a global media giant (2500 employees) comes to my mind. It was created in 1990 by a Jewish Billionaire, Michael Bloomberg, a former mayor of New York, and a 2020-democratic presidential candidate.

I am trying to put the documentary’s segment of the 2002 Hindu-Muslim riots in a perspective of global and racial politics. In 1992, when the Jury acquitted the police officers for the inhuman beatings (not killing!) of Rodney King, Afro-Americans rioted in Los Angeles (LA) for two days. That killed  63 people, 3600 fires burnt 1100 buildings, and looting went on. It  cost nearly one billion$$. Afro-American Mayor Bradley and the California Governor justified it by criticizing the verdict. The Governor was never sued as Modi has been hounded for years. In fact, the LA international airport was renamed after Bradley! That has emboldened the Afro-American community, and they have politically and militantly emerged stronger.

Thirty years later, this politicization of riots opened the floodgates for greater bonanza for the Afro-Americans. It happened in Minneapolis when the life of George Floyd, who had a long criminal record, was inhumanly snuffed out in his confrontation with four police officers. The riots starting from Minneapolis were orchestrated in every major city (200 in all!) controlled  by Afro-American politicians. Between May 26-June 8, 2020, 19 people died and property loss in arson and looting touched two billion$$. Afro-Americans have now become a force to  reckon with in every walk of US life. Their history, ethos etc. are being embraced and introduced in every US institution. The bottom line is that global militancy and politics rule the roost. The present Hindus are light years away from it.

On the other hand, there is a global backlash against the Hindus, BJP and Modi. The Muslims and Christians of the world believe that Hindus are born to be ruled by the non-Hindus. In this documentary, the Godhara massacre had little bearing on the riots in Ahmedabad and a few other places. On February 24, 2004, the Muslim terrorists stopped a train during dawn hours on the outskirts of Godhra railway station and set one specific compartment of Hindu pilgrims on fire after pumping petrol into it and chaining the doors from outside so that no one could come out. All Hindu passengers were roasted alive amidst shrieks rending the sky – 60 died and 48 were injured. The communal riots started in retaliation were broadly engineered by the Global Islamic forces – killed 254 Hindus and 790 Muslims died! The dead ones were only human pawns. The sole objective is to eliminate or bring Modi down.

Here is a revealing communal scenario and its political ramifications. In a month-long 1992 Hindu-Muslim riots in Mumbai, nearly 275 Hindus and 575 Muslims died. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra state was never blamed or sued! Why? Because the Chief minister of the state was from the Congress Party, and so was the Prime Minister of India. It does not take much to see what 2 plus 2 is.

As far as the movie, Pathaan is concerned, its name says it all. Pathaans and Khans are walking or public billboards of Afghani ancestry of many Muslims in India – they are naturally proud of it. Afghani Muslims ruthlessly ruled over the Hindus after Prithviraj Chauhan foolishly lost the war with Mohammed Ghori in 1192. It quickly started changing the entire landscape of India forever. An historic irony is that Afghanistan has gradually erased all traces of people, places and monuments of its Hindu heritage. Whereas, Afghani monuments in India are being preserved by the Hindu taxpayers for centuries!

Presently, India, awakened by its ancient heritage of Hindutva, is at a cusp again. The 2024 elections will set the pace for better or worse for India. Tragically, most Hindus with a decimated psyche have no qualms about being ruled by people and ideologies of foreign faiths and lands. There are hordes of them in the present Congress, Communist, AAP, BSP, SP, and Janta parties of India. I was one of them too for the first six decades of my life. However, the freedom of thought in the US lifestyle has liberated my mind!

  1. Desi Ameri says:

Mr. Bhatnagar is either confused or intentionally misleading the readers. There is no comparison between the Gujarat massacre and Rodney King, and George Floyd riots. No whites were taken from their homes, chased, killed, or burned by blacks during the King-Floyd aftermath.

The 2002 riots systematically targeted Muslim businesses for burning and people for killing. The lists were prepared in advance by Modi’s party, ready to be used. The Godhra killing was bad and the killers should have been punished, as they were. But, the Modi government was not only complicit, it actively initiated the riots and killings after the Godhra mayhem. Even in small towns and villages Muslims were found and killed. Hindus were killed by Muslims, but the role of the government is the problem, not which community was worse.

The western media (e. g. BBC, NYT) are liberal, so they criticize the role of governments in all democratic countries, but ignore the treatment of minorities in Muslim and authoritarian countries. They are biased and are not objective in this matter, but it has nothing to do with Hinduism. Indians who are rational, objective, and fair don’t have a “decimated psyche” nor are they self-hating Hindus.

It’s too bad too many NRIs are buying Hindutva and BJO propaganda in the social media lock, stock, and barrel without learning the facts.

  2. Grounded citizen says:

Mr Bhatnagar needs to stick to math – here he is trying to draw conclusions of 2 + 2 = 5. His understanding of the politics of BJP and its parent organization Jan Sangh and grand parent organization RSS is either woefully inadequate or he has chosen to wear blinders to promote a false narrative.

  3. Concerned Indian says:

What Me Bhatanagar said is 100% correct. There are so many people jealous of Mr Modiji and INDIA it doesn’t matter if u r a math professor or a biology professor U as a person know your country politics and of course if u love ur country genuinely and if I r a True Indian u Will agree 100% to the above document. Obviously u belong to the Phirangi Chamcha group. People don’t like to see the Hindus and Hindustan trying to regain its Old Glory and hence the Bitterness

    • Balbir Bhogal says:

I agree with Prof Bhatnagar’s review and his comments are valid if we go by all the info available and look at it without a bias and closed mind. Documentary is based on well researched work by a BBC a team of reporters appointed with the help of then British Govt . Jack Straw has supported the content of the documentary. There is little doubt that Modi and his gang was behind it and if any doubt, please watch the series Primeminister. It tells the true story.
