At the continued arraignment hearing, the court notified Shiva Charan Reddy Gummi of the criminal charges of Murder with the use of a deadly weapon. In April 2023, Las Vegan Shiva Gummi allegedly stabbed his Physician wife, Gwendoline Amsrala, to death. Dr. Amsrala, a UNLV School of Medicine graduate, recently started her medical residency.

Shiva, represented by a public defender, pled not guilty to the charges by the State. Gummi’s public defender informed the court the matter was not going to the Death Review Committee.

The earlier preliminary hearing and arraignment called for the settlement conference, where the court was informed the parties could not settle the matter. In last week’s arraignment hearing, the 60-day rule was invoked, where a timely trial occurs within no more than 60 days from the date defendant Gummi was arraigned.

The pretrial conference is scheduled in November, followed by a jury trial beginning December 11, 2023.
