Successful Virtual Entertainment & Fundraiser by EKAL Vidyalaya- Message from the President, EKAL Las Vegas

Dear Las Vegas Community,

On behalf of all the Ekal volunteers and the Ekal Youth Group, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart for making our virtual event on Saturday, August 22nd a great success.

With your love and support, I am pleased to announce that the virtual event that our Las Vegas chapter hosted in conjunction with the Pacific Region (CA, AZ, NV, OR and UT) received an outpouring of great reviews and appreciations. The current and unfortunate restriction of social activity failed to curb the enthusiasm of the community and we were able to raise substantial funds to support our mission to bring basic education to children across India. I am also pleased to announce that our past donors continue to support us and in addition, several new members of our great community reached out with their donations. So far this year Las Vegas has been able to raise $57,685 (funding approximately 158 schools).

During the show, Ekal was able to showcase Youth Group members from various chapters in the Pacific Region. Our own Las Vegas Ekal Youth Chapter, which is one of the most active youth groups in Ekal, created videos clips for “Digital Literacy Training Centers” as well as “Telemedicine” in Ekal. The involvement of local youth groups continues the Ekal tradition to not only serve the academic, health and social needs of underprivileged children in India, but also helps develop the social awareness and activism in our youth in America.

Ekal is involved in several projects besides the schools.  Last year, our chapter raised $50,000 for an ‘Ekal On Wheels’ computer bus. This year our goal is also to raise $30,000 for our E-Shiksa project (tablets for 30 schools) in India. Dr. Kamala Kant Vijai and Mrs. Girija Vijay have announced that they will match $15,000 if one or more members of the community can collectively raise $15,000 for the E-Shiksha project. We are still receiving donations online from people who could not attend the event on August 22 towards it.  If you would like to be part of this noble cause, please contact us.

Please continue to donate online (www.ekal.org/us/donate). Education never stops.

Stay safe and have a wonderful rest of the summer. And remember:  What happens in Las Vegas, stays in Vegas, BUT What happens in Ekal Vegas, shines everywhere !

On behalf of the entire Ekal Las Vegas team,

Arun Gupta President, Ekal Las Vegas, EkalChapterLasVegas@gmail.com
