Roopesh Doshi Etched on Amazon’s Project Kuiper

As a part of the ambitious team of system designers for Amazon’s Project Kuiper, Roopesh Doshi’s name is permanently engraved on the satellites that will be circling the earth in low earth orbit. Amazon’s Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase broadband access through a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit. The goal is to provide fast, reliable, affordable internet worldwide to unserved and underserved places.

Roopesh Doshi

Doshi, till June 2023, served as a Manager of Optical Engineering for Amazon’s ambitious Project Kuiper, focusing on free-space optical communications, DWDM networks, DCI, and long-haul data center applications. Dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) is an optical fiber multiplexing technology used to increase the bandwidth of existing fiber networks.

This is a proud moment for the Las Vegan Doshi family, particularly for parents Ramesh & Bansri & brother Rishin Doshi. “Ever since he was a child, he had a keen interest in space and had a dream of becoming an Astronaut, having attended Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama,” said proud father Ramesh Doshi.

Doshi graduated from a prestigious Caltech, Pasadena, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Later, Doshi received a Master’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering with research emphasis on the Optical Communications and Photonic Networks Laboratory from the University of California Santa Barbara. Currently, Doshi is in the process of completing a Ph.D. from UC Santa Barbara.

Doshi has published multiple high-quality research articles in prestigious research journals with a broad spectrum of subjects relating to optical communications. Recently, Doshi has moved to Google as a Team Leader in Optical Engineering.
