Four Indian-American Students Named National Merit $2500 Scholarship Winners
National Merit Scholarship Corporation is pleased to announce four local Indian-American students as the winner of a $2500 scholarship. The four Indian-American students, Sohini Mandal, Sanjay Soni, Mathew J. Stephen, and Meghana S. Sunkara, were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding Finalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Sohini Mandal is graduating from the Green Valley High School, Henderson. Mandal is planning to pursue a degree in Chemistry. Sanjay Soni of West Career and Technical Academy is planning to go for a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. Mathew J. Stephen is graduating from an elite private school, The Meadows School is looking forward to pursuing a career in Medicine. Meghana S. Sunkara of a top public magnet school, Ed. W. Clark High School, Las Vegas is also planning to pursue a career in Medicine.
National Merit $2,500 scholarship winners are the Finalists judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The winners are selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors who appraised the academic record, the difficulty of subjects studied and grades earned including scores from the Preliminary SAT and PSAT, leadership qualities, written essays, and more.
By the conclusion of the 2022 program about 7,500 Finalists, out of 1.5 million students, will have earned the “Merit Scholar” title and received a total of nearly $28 million in college scholarships.
